Sanatan Dharma is timeless, fresh, and more importantly relevant. Given the mental condition of people today, Sanatan Dharma may have answers that could provide renewed perspectives on things.
One does not have to be a rocket scientist to realize the kind of society we live in today. While it is true that the world has made unimaginable scientific and technological progress, it is suffering. Be it the threats of war, people’s mental health, or society in general, what we are experiencing today is decay. The more we move away from what is organic, the more toxicity we embrace. All the scientific and technological progress has turned man into a machine, making him intolerant, toxic, and completely detached from nature.
While scientific progress is of utmost importance for a society, we must find ways to integrate it with nature and that is what exactly Sanatan Dhrma teaches. Be it ancient structures or science, our forefathers had found ways and methods to integrate it with nature, which they called the “Sanatan approach to life.” They had realized anything that goes against nature was unscientific.
Why is Sanatan Dharma relevant today?
On his official website, Sadguru mentions:
“The Sanatana Dharma is not about telling you something that you have to believe or else you are dead. This is not that kind of culture. I tell you something that will raise more questions in you than you ever imagined possible. The entire process of the Sanatana Dharma is to raise questions in you, not to give you readymade answers – to raise questions, to deepen the questioning in such a way that you will naturally find the source of all this…”
The problem with today’s world, as far as religion is concerned, people do not want to explore. They would much rather believe or follow a given set of rules. However, that would eliminate the process of self-inquiry, which is one of the cornerstones of any religion!
Sanatan Dharma does not provide any given set of rules for a person on a spiritual quest; however, it does talk about some fundamental laws one should follow to reach his or her destination faster. One of the cornerstones of Sanatan Dharma is the nourishment of the soul through asking questions. The questions lead one to self-realization—the aim or purpose of the ancient Dharmic religion.
