Ahmedabad: A private school in Vatva was taken to task for illegally charging female students board exam fees. The matter came to light after the Ahmedabad city district education officer received a complaint against Adarsh Hindi School for charging Rs 800 per student.
The authorities issued a notice to the school administration, who subsequently confessed to collecting the fees. The school has promised to return the fees to students in a day or two. The institution has been instructed to submit proof of refunds to the education office.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) is currently processing online registrations for Classes 10 and 12 exams, scheduled to begin from Feb 27. While there is a fee for board exam forms, a govt directive exempts girls and physically disabled students from this payment.
Ahmedabad city DEO Rohit Chaudhary, upon receiving the complaint, issued a notice seeking clarification. An official investigation confirmed that the school had collected the fees from the students, and school administrators acknowledged this action.
