Mumbai: Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police commissionerate seized 40kg of drugs worth Rs 11 crore in 32 cases in the last 11 months in its jurisdiction and arrested 62 accused so far. Police sources said these two satellite cities are being targeted by drug lords for their storage and distribution process. Senior officers of the Anti Narcotis Cell (ANC) have confirmed that most of the arrested accused are locals and a few have been arrested from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. High value drugs like charas are smuggled from Nepal via Bihar and then further distributed across the country. The seized drugs include party drug MD (Mephedron), cocaine, heroin and ganja.
“In one case, we arrested five accused from Mumbai and seized 3kg charas which was brought into India from Nepal via Bihar and in another case, we arrested three from MP for possession of charas,” said police inspector Amar Marathe of the ANC, MBVV police. He added that two accused were arrested (one from Thane and one from Gujarat) after they were raided and 1,400 bottles of Corex cough syrup were found on them.
Out of the 62 arrested so far in the last 11 months, 12 were Nigerian nationals and are currently in police custody. They were arrested from Mira Bhayandar and Pragati Nagar in Nalasopara. One of the biggest seizures was the Rs 1.5 crore worth cocaine seizure from Naya Nagar in which two Nigerian nationals were arrested. Vishal Rajemahadik
