Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address about a lakh volunteers (karyakarta) of the BAPS sect of Swaminarayan Sampradaya at Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday. The organisers of the ‘Karyakar Suvarna Mahotsav (Volunteer Golden Jubilee) told the media that Union home minister Amit Shah will be the chief guest at the function, whereas Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel will be the guest of honour.
Brahmvihari Swami of BAPS told the media at the stadium that in 1972, Pramukh Swami Maharaj gave the idea of creating a structure of active volunteers, and it started with 11 volunteers — eight from India and one each from the US, the UK, and Africa.
“Today, we have nearly one lakh karyakars, and this event is all about felicitating these active volunteers for their services. This event is a gathering of gratefulness, not a show of strength,” he said. “Volunteers from 30 countries, including those in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Africa, will participate in the event.”
The event will have about 2,000 people performing on the theme of seed, tree, and fruits, capturing the sacrifice and profound impact of the volunteers of the sect. The props for the event are prepared at Raysan, Sarangpur, and Shahibaug.
