As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 unfolds, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up to address election rallies today in the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. This comes on the heels of PM Modi’s recent rally in Chhattisgarh on April 23, where he intensified his critique of the Congress party.
During his Chhattisgarh rally, PM Modi did not hold back, asserting, “Congress considers itself bigger than Lord Ram.” This statement reflects the ongoing political rhetoric between the BJP and the Congress, with religious sentiments often being invoked in the heat of election campaigns.
Prior to his Chhattisgarh rally, PM Modi had also launched scathing attacks on the Congress party during his address in Rajasthan. He criticized the Congress-led administration, alleging, “In the rule of Congress, even listening to Hanuman Chalisa becomes a crime.” These remarks are indicative of the deeply polarized political landscape in India, where religious and cultural narratives are frequently intertwined with electoral discourse.
In another development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took disciplinary action against KS Eshwarappa, expelling him from the party for six years. Eshwarappa had caused embarrassment to the party by contesting as an Independent candidate from the Shivamogga constituency. This incident underscores the BJP’s strict adherence to party discipline, especially during the crucial election period.
Amidst the political fervor, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has assured the Election Commission that there are “no major concerns” regarding heat waves for the upcoming second phase of Lok Sabha polls scheduled for April 26. According to Mrutunjay Mohapatra, Director General of IMD, the weather forecast is “normal” for the 13 states and Union Territories participating in phase two of the elections. This assurance comes after the Election Commission held a meeting with relevant agencies to address concerns over rising temperatures and mitigate any risks during the polling period.
The Lok Sabha elections are unfolding in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. In a recent development, BJP’s Mukesh Dalal secured victory unopposed from the Surat Lok Sabha seat after all other candidates withdrew from the electoral contest.
