PhonePe has launched its ‘On-The-Go’ RuPay NCMC Card, a step aligned with India’s ‘One Nation One Card’ initiative aimed at digitising public transit payments nationwide.

The card enables tap-and-pay transactions across NCMC-enabled services, including metros, buses, trains, tolls, and parking. Designed for convenience, it allows offline payments without the need for internet connectivity.

The prepaid card stores value directly on its chip, supporting a maximum balance of ₹2,000 and offline transactions of up to ₹500.

According to PhonePe, the cards are issued instantly, simplifying access for daily commuters. Initially, the card will be available at Hyderabad Metro ticket counters, in partnership with L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (LTMRHL). After OTP verification of a phone number, commuters can purchase and top up the card through UPI, cash, or cards.

While the launch is focused on Hyderabad, the card is fully interoperable and can be used at NCMC-enabled stations across other cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

Deep Agrawal, Head of Payments at PhonePe, said, “This card enables quick ‘Tap-and-Pay’ transactions across transit providers in India. It works offline using the balance present on the card and is our first step in integrating our digital wallet ecosystem with national public transport.”

The launch represents PhonePe’s strategic entry into the transit segment, complementing its existing digital ticketing, passes, and smart card recharge offerings.

PhonePe Limited, founded in 2016, is a technology company providing platforms for digital payments, distribution services, and financial services.
