Patna Schools Closed: The District Administration of Patna has ordered the suspension of academic activities for students up to Class 8 in all private and government schools until January 11, 2025, due to persistent cold weather and low temperatures. This directive was issued by Patna District Magistrate (DM) Chandra Shekhar Singh in an official order on Sunday.
For students in Classes 9 and above, schools will remain open with adjusted timings from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Activities related to board examinations have been exempted from this restriction, as stated in the order.
The official notice read, “District Magistrate, Patna, has banned educational activities up to class 8 in schools, Anganwadi centres, and preschools till January 11, in view of the safety of children’s health in extreme cold. Instructions have been given to keep the teaching time in classes above class 8 between 9 am and 3:30 pm only.”

Cold conditions continue to affect Bihar, with Motihari recording the state’s lowest minimum temperature of 6.7°C on Sunday. Dense fog prevailed in the morning across north-western, central, and southern districts of the state, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) weather bulletin released Sunday afternoon.
Patna experienced a minimum temperature of 10°C on Sunday, marking a slight decrease of 0.5°C from the previous day. The maximum temperature, which was 14°C on Saturday, rose to 16.3°C on Sunday.
Other parts of Bihar witnessed an increase in both minimum and maximum temperatures, with Kishanganj recording the state’s highest maximum temperature of 26.5°C on Sunday.
The IMD has forecast no significant change in temperatures over the next two days. However, a slight drop in minimum temperatures is anticipated thereafter.
