The David Dhawan directorial ‘Aankhen’ is one of the iconic cinematic pierces in Bollywood. From the comedy punches to the narrative and performances, everything about the movie is impressive. Not to forget the charm of young Govinda and Chunky Panday and their unbeatable timing. However, if you recall properly, ‘Aankhen’ didn’t have two but three main stars – Chunky, Govinda, and the monkey. If Chunky is to be believed, then it was the monkey who was paid, pampered, and treated more like a star than he and Govinda.
In the recent episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, Chunky Panday, Govinda, and Shakti Kapoor appeared as guests and there they shared this anecdote from ‘Aankhen.
“We did this film together where these two were the heroes. Actually, no, there were three heroes. Govinda, Chunky, and a monkey. Ask them,” said Shakti Kapoor. Echoing the sentiment
Chunky continued, “Yes, he was paid more handsomely than us.” Govind also agreed with his costars and said they didn’t even get paid. According to the stars’ account monkey was given a room at the Sun-n-Sand Hotel in Mumbai.
This isn’t the first time that this anecdote from the sets of ‘Aankhen’ has come out. Earlier, in an interview with Hindustan Times, Chunky Panday shared that the monkey was a very expensive artist, who flew from down south with 6 assistants.
“He was a big star who would stay at Hotel Sun and Sand. Crazy things used to happen to the set because of this fellow, but he was equally loved by everyone,” added Chunky.

Chunky Panday is currently busy with ‘Housefull 5.’ Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the film boasts a stellar cast including – Akshay Kumar, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueliene Fernandez, Fardeen Khan, Sonam Bajwa, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Jonny Lever among others. The movie is slated to release in June next year.
