NEET : The Centre on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha that they will take measures to protect the interests of the student community. In the Upper House of the Parliament, a supplementary question was filed related to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) and the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel answered the question in the House.-NEET

“In so far as the allegations of a paper leak are concerned the Supreme Court’s judgement has already come to us … I would only like to assure through you (the Chair) to the member that government is committed to the best interest of students and whatever is needed will be done by the government.” said Patel adding that the first round of NEET-UG counselling would commence from August 14.-NEET

“We have already announced that the first round of counselling will begin from 14 August and as per the Supreme Court’s order we will be holding the counselling in four rounds,” Patel said in the Rajya Sabha. In the House, she also announced that the fourth round of the NEET UG 2024 counselling will conclude on October 24. In the House, the Minister also shared the number of seats available for both UG and PG courses in private and government colleges.

There is an increase of 88% in medical colleges from 387 before 2014 to 731 as of now. Further, there is an increase of 118% in MBBS seats from 51,348 before 2014 to 1,12,112 as of now, read the government data.

NEET UG 2024: MCC to hold four rounds of counselling till October 24

The National Testing Agency had declared the result of NEET-UG on June 4 and re-revised scorecard on July 26. The dates for counselling were announced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through a public notification on July 29.

Registration of eligible candidates will start from first week of August. “The allotment of seats under NEET-UG is carried out through a transparent Online Counselling process. It ensures convenience and accessibility to candidates by allowing them to participate in a hassle-free manner,” the government said.
