New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) officials have visited Valmiki Sadan, Mandir Marg and Bapu Dham, Chanakyapuri, to interact with residents to resolve their infrastructure woes.
Chairman Keshav Chandra and vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal, along with officials, assessed the state of the civil work, electrical installation, green spaces, sewage network and water distribution systems. Chahal directed department heads to address residents’ concerns swiftly. The residents have spoken about water scarcity, lack of plaster repair, sewage blockages, bathroom and toilet maintenance, horticulture beautification, streetlights and stray animals.
NDMC chairman Keshav Chandra said: “People often face challenges in reaching out to us due to protocol and other barriers. This is why we’ve taken the initiative to go to the people, listen to their concerns and ensure prompt resolution.”
Valmiki Sadan was the place where the Prime Minister launched the Swachh Bharat Mission, Chahal said. “Resolving the issues of sanitation workers and other residents living here is our top priority. Redevelopment is our key focus here. Repairing quarters, replacing sewage and drainage systems and other development work are under way with a commitment to timely completion here,” he added.
Problems related to civil engineering, electrical systems, horticulture, sewage and water supply were discussed. “Immediate instructions were issued to the department heads present for prompt resolution. A budget of Rs 7.8 crore has been allocated for a project for development and upgrade in Valmiki Sadan,” Chahal said.
He also outlined redevelopment plans, including the repair and strengthening of 296 Type-1 quarters in Bapu Dham and 321 quarters in Valmiki Sadan. The work included replacing sewage and drainage lines, installing CC flooring, reinforcing balcony structures and replacing overhead water tanks.
Department heads assured them of time-bound solutions.
Chahal said a development project worth Rs 70 lakh was in progress at the Bapu Dham Residential Complex, with another Rs 37 lakh project in the pipeline.
