NCERT Updates : The National Council of Educational Research and Training has revised the textbook of Class 6. Now Ujjain has been included in it as the meridian before Greenwich.-NCERT Updates

NCERT has revised the Class 6 textbook. It now includes Ujjain as the meridian before Greenwich Mean Time. There is no mention of caste discrimination. The Harappan civilization will now be called the “Indus-Saraswati” civilization, with the focus on the Saraswati river. – NCERT Updates

In India, before the Greenwich Meridian, the Prime Meridian called ‘Madhya Rekha’ passed through Ujjain. Greenwich was not the first Prime Meridian, but there were others in the past. In India, the ‘Madhya Rekha’ passing through the city of Ujjaini was the Prime Meridian of India in ancient times, which existed before the European Meridian. It established Ujjain as a major center of astronomy.

There is no mention of caste-based discrimination in the textbook developed according to the new syllabus. Changes have been made in the context of BR Ambedkar’s experience of discrimination. Details of the Vedas have been given. Women and Shudras did not have the right to study these texts.

It is known by this name in Pakistan?

The new textbook calls the Harappan civilization the Indus-Saraswati civilization. The Saraswati river is mentioned repeatedly in the chapter “Beginnings of Indian Civilization”. Apart from large cities like Rakhigarhi and Ganweriwala, many small cities and towns existed in the Saraswati river valley, which shows the wide spread of this civilization. According to this, today this river is known as ‘Ghaggar’ in India and ‘Hakra’ in Pakistan and now it is just a seasonal river.

The priests had divided the people into four groups

Let us tell you that in the old book it was told that some priests had divided people into four groups which was called Varna Vyavastha. Women and Shudras were not allowed to study Vedic studies. Then women were also kept in the Shudra category. NCERT Director Dinesh Saklani said that four chapters of the previous textbook have been removed in the new book, which included the states of Ashoka and Chandragupta Maurya, the role of Chanakya and his Arthashastra, as well as the Gupta, Pallava and Chalukya dynasties and the works of Kalidasa.
