Nayanthara reacts to people calling her open letter to Dhanush a 'publicity stunt': 'I don’t think anybody would have the courage to do it..'

Nayanthara has finally addressed the controversy surrounding her open letter to Dhanush. While some fans trolled the actress, claiming that the open letter was a publicity stunt to promote her documentary, ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale’, she explained that she had no choice but to take the matter public since Dhanush declined to have a conversation with her directly.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Nayanthara clarified that the documentary was not intended to tarnish anyone’s image or serve as a promotional tool but was meant for those who are interested. She emphasised that the film should be seen as an exploration of the individual it portrays, rather than being evaluated as a commercial success or failure.

The ‘Ghajini’ actress explained that she chose to speak publicly after multiple failed attempts to resolve the issue privately. She revealed that her husband, Vignesh Shivan, and she herself had reached out to Dhanush’s manager and mutual friends to address the matter directly but were unable to get a response from the actor. Nayanthara expressed her disappointment at not being able to resolve the situation despite genuine efforts.
She clarified the controversy surrounding the behind-the-scenes footage used in the trailer of her documentary. She explained that the footage in question was filmed years ago on personal phones and was not part of the official film clips. The actress emphasised that the BTS content was a small, random collection of videos from over ten years ago, and was not covered under any formal rights. Despite the issues caused by Dhanush and his team, Nayanthara believed that anyone with a clear perspective would have let the matter go when the trailer was released.
She expressed her disappointment over the situation, particularly with regard to Dhanush, whom she respects and admires. She found it unfair that the issue escalated to such an extent, prompting her to speak out. She attributed her courage to speaking the truth, stating that she only feels fear when fabricating information. “I only have to be scared when I am trying to fabricate something. If I don’t do that now, when it’s been pushed beyond the limit, I don’t think anybody would have the courage to do anything at any point in time,” she said.
Nayanthara emphasised that, in situations like this, staying silent would mean allowing things to go too far, and that speaking up was necessary.
‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, released in 2015, was produced by Dhanush, and Nayanthara fell in love with director Vignesh during the filming of the movie.
Last month, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of delaying her documentary for the past two years by not giving permission to use a 3-second BTS clip from the movie. Dhanush’s legal team demanded Rs 10 crore for using the clip in the documentary without consent.
