About the Seminar

The National Seminar on “India’s Waste Laws: Challenges & Sustainable Solutions”, organised by the Centre for Labour Studies, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, in collaboration with the Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, aims to provide a comprehensive platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on environmental governance and sustainable waste management in India.

In light of rapidly increasing waste generation, growing environmental degradation, and public health concerns, the seminar seeks to critically analyse India’s waste management framework, identify implementation gaps, and explore sustainable, legally robust solutions.

The programme will deliberate upon solid waste regulation, plastic and e-waste governance, biomedical and hazardous waste management, disaster-related waste challenges, and climate-linked waste risks.

The seminar also aims to promote innovative approaches, such as circular economy models, decentralised waste processing, technological interventions, extended producer responsibility, and community-based waste governance.

By bringing together academicians, policymakers, environmental experts, legal practitioners, research scholars, & students, the seminar aspires to strengthen regulatory accountability & align waste governance strategies with sustainable development & climate action goals.

Selected papers presented at the seminar may be considered for publication in an edited volume following the event.
