About the Department of Law, University of Calcutta
Founded in 1909, the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, is one of the oldest and most prestigious legal institutions in India. With a legacy spanning over a century, it has produced distinguished legal minds who have significantly contributed to the judiciary, academia, and policymaking.
About the Competition
The competition has been envisioned as a sincere effort to build upon the strong foundation laid by its inaugural edition and to establish itself as a premier event on the national mooting circuit, proudly rooted in Kolkata.
The theme of the present edition revolves around the liability of corporations pertaining to climate change, a critical issue in our rapidly industrializing nation. The amalgamation of courtroom advocacy with climate activism offers participants a novel and enriching mooting experience.
Format of Competition
The competition will be conducted in two phases: Virtual Rounds and In-Person Rounds.
- Virtual Rounds (Saturday, 16th May, 2026)
- Preliminary Rounds: All registered teams will compete in the virtual preliminary rounds.
- In-Person Rounds (at the Department of Law, University of Calcutta)
- Quarter-Finals: The top 8 teams from the preliminary rounds will advance to the quarter-finals. (Wednesday, 3rd June, 2026)
- Semi-Finals: The winners of each of the Quarter-Finals will advance to the Semi-Finals. (Thursday, 4th June, 2026)
- Finals: The winners of each of the Semi-Finals will compete for the championship. (Thursday, 4th June, 2026)
Eligibility
The competition is open to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in either a three-year LL.B. programme or a five-year integrated LL.B. programme in any law college, university, or institution duly recognized by the Bar Council of India during the academic year 2025-2026.
Registration Details
The registration process consists of two phases, with corresponding fee payments:
- Phase 1: Initial registration fee — Rs. 2400 per team (payable at the time of registration).
- Phase 2: Only for teams qualifying for the In-Person Rounds (Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals & Finals) and seeking accommodation — an additional fee of Rs. 3600.

- Release of Moot Brochure & Rulebook: Tuesday, 10th March, 2026
- Release of Moot Proposition: Tuesday, 17th March, 2026
- Clarification Request Deadline: Sunday, 5th April, 2026
- Final Clarifications Release: Sunday, 12th April, 2026
- Registration Deadline: Friday, 8th May, 2026
- Submission of Memorials: Sunday, 10th May, 2026
- Preliminary Rounds: Saturday, 16th May, 2026
- Advanced Rounds: Wednesday and Thursday, 3rd-4th June, 2026
Awards and Prizes
The competition offers the following cash prizes to recognize outstanding performances:
- Winning Team: Rs. 60,000
- First Runners-Up: Rs. 30,000
- Second Runners-Up: Rs. 15,000
- Best Speaker: Rs. 10,000
- Best Memorial: Rs. 10,000
Further, Three (3) one-year complimentary subscriptions to SCC Online Web Edition, each worth Rs. 32,000/-, will be distributed to the winning team.
The total value of these subscriptions amounts to Rs. 96,000/-. Additionally, one month of access to the SCC Online Web Edition will be provided to all participants, valued at Rs. 3100/- each.
