Mumbai civic body removes 427 tonnes of waste under special cleanliness drive

Mumbai: The BMC cleaned as many as 2,603 barricades and cleared 427 tonnes of waste on Saturday as part of a two-day cleanliness drive across infrastructure sites. This includes cleaning barricades placed at project sites, which are stained and covered with filth, as well as clearing debris, broken paver blocks, and dividers at these sites. The BMC will give out Rs 5 lakh as an incentive to five wards that perform well in this cleanliness drive. Wards awarded the sum of Rs 5 lakh each will be able to use the amount in other creative initiatives related to cleanliness.
The civic body, which deployed about 2,246 people, cleaned and washed approximately 8 km. The BMC cleared 363 tonnes of construction and demolition waste, which was sent to C&D processing plants. Additionally, the civic body also cleared 49 tonnes of inert, silt, and solid waste, and 15 tonnes of rank vegetation. The drive will continue on Sunday as well.
