Mercedes-Benz EQG 580 launched at Rs 3 crore!

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the highly anticipated G 580 in India, an electric iteration of its globally popular G-Class SUV, at an ex-showroom price of Rs 3 crore. Pre-bookings for the EV began in July last year, and the model is already sold out until the third quarter of 2025. The German carmaker has confirmed that the eSUV will be showcased at the company’s pavilion at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo, slated to start from January 17, 2025. Here, let’s quickly take a look at what’s on offer.

Mercedes-Benz G580: Design

Despite its electric heart, the G 580 features the familiar boxy silhouette and circular LED headlamps. More or less, it looks the same as the ICE G450d but comes with EV-specific changes such as a closed-off grille with horizontal slats finished in black. It has a Mercedes logo at the centre. Other highlights include a marginally raised bonnet, a refreshed design for the A-pillar, air curtains on the wheel arches and a newly-designed rear spoiler – all aimed at improving the aerodynamic efficiency. These updates contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.44, making it aerodynamically superior to its ICE sibling. Furthermore, the car gets 18-inch five twin-spoke alloy wheels.

Mercedes-Benz G580: Battery and range

The G 580 houses a 116 kWh battery pack and comes with a WLTP-certified range of 473 km on a fully-juiced battery. Its four-motor setup, with one motor dedicated to each wheel, produces a combined output of 587 hp and 1,164 Nm of peak torque. With this powertrain, the electrified G can sprint from 0-100kmph in just 4.7 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 180 kmph.
The 116 kWh battery supports fast charging at speeds of up to 200k W, enabling a 32-minute charge time to replenish 80% of the battery.

In terms of features, the eSUV gets dual 12.3-inch screens that serve as the driver’s display and infotainment system, besides physical controls for climate and ventilation. Other notable highlights include wireless charger, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, a Burmester sound system, multi-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, ADAS, and more. However, the most talked about feature is the popular G-Turn which allows the SUV to rotate 720 degrees on the spot.
