Law School Review: Heritage Law College, Kolkata

Heritage Law College, Kolkata, West Bengal

Anandapur, 994, West Chowbaga Road, Madurdaha, Kolkata, West Bengal 700107

The classrooms are somewhat mediocre in terms of space and comfort. The library offers a good collection of books on every subject. The college provides an indoor games room and a limited space for playing badminton. The hostel rooms are comfortable and spacious enough for two students.

Rating: 2.5/5

The academic culture is structured with sufficient faculty members for each subject. Most professors are knowledgeable and approachable, but the teaching quality varies from one faculty member to another.

My most memorable classes include Contract Law and Constitutional Law, which were engaging and taught by professors who provided clarity early on. Attendance is generally monitored, and the class timings are well-organized.

Rating: 3/5

The peer quality in the college is a mixed bag. Some highly motivated and competitive students actively participate in academics and other activities, while others are more casual in their approach. It mostly depends on the circle one is in.

Rating: 3/5

The college allows its students to participate in a decent range of extracurricular activities. Events, seminars, and competitions are organized, though they are not as frequent. The overall social life is average and mostly depends on one’s circle.

Rating: 3/5

The college does not offer any formal placement support. There is no structured placement cell, and students are responsible for finding internships and job opportunities on their own.

Most students pursue internships through personal networks, applications to law firms, NGOs, courts, or by working under advocates. Career paths are mostly self-driven, with many opting for litigation, higher studies, or competitive exams after graduation.

Rating: 1/5

The hostel facilities are quite good, with well-maintained rooms. The mattresses and basic furnishings are comfortable, and the overall cleanliness is satisfactory. The essential facilities are provided, making hostel life convenient for students. However, the variety of food has scope for improvement. 5

Rating: 4/5

One of the best things about my college is a few supportive faculty members who are knowledgeable and genuinely interested in helping students. Their guidance in academics and co-curricular activities makes a positive difference in the overall learning experience.

Some of the drawbacks of the college include the lack of a structured placement cell and limited internship assistance. A few faculty members discourage internships, which can limit practical exposure for students.

There are certain aspects of infrastructure and classroom facilities which could be improved. Additionally, opportunities for co-curricular activities could be better organized.

I do think choosing the right college is very important, but that should not limit anyone in their professional life. Ultimately, a student must strive toward their goals regardless of the college they are in. My college provides a decent learning experience, with some areas that could be improved.

However, how the experience turns out depends a bit on luck and the efforts a student puts in. It could be positive for one student and less so for another at the same time.

5/10
