Lakshya Sen went down fighting to world No. 11 Lin Chun-yi of Chinese Taipei in the men’s singles final at the All England Open Badminton Championships 2026 on Sunday.
Lakshya lost 15-21, 20-22 in 57 minutes. It was Sen’s fifth straight defeat to Lin.
History Missed!
This was second appearance in the All England final for the 24-year-old from Almora, having finished runner-up in the 2022 edition.
Lakshya had secured a 21-16, 18-21, 21-15 victory over Canada’s 21-year-old Victor Lai, who had claimed a surprise bronze at last year’s World Championships in Paris. Lin Chun-Yi had booked his place in the summit clash with 21-14, 18-21, 21-16 win over Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Sen’s mentor, Prakash Padukone, reached the All England final in 1980 and 1981, winning the title in his first appearance in the summit clash.
Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand (2001) are the only Indians to have won the All England title.
Apart from them, only Prakash Nath (1947) and Saina Nehwal (2015) have come close with runner-up finishes.
