Bengaluru: Gujarati writer Himanshi Indulal Shelat was selected for the Kuvempu Rashtriya Puraskar, a national award instituted in memory of the late poet laureate Kuvempu, for 2024. The award will be presented in Jan 2025.
The award, instituted by Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Trust, carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a silver medal, and a citation.
The Kuvempu National Award selection committee, headed by Dr BL Shankar, president of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Trust, selected Shelat at a meeting on Dec 5. Members of the selection committee were Gujarati writer and translator Sharifa Vajaliwala, former secretary of Sahitya Akademi Agrahara Krishnamurthy, and chairman of Kannada Development Authority Purushottam Bilimale.
Shelat has authored about 20 books, including stories, novels, essays, critiques, and translations, and won multiple awards.
