Kejriwal hits out at Shah again, BJP strikes back

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday slammed Union home minister Amit Shah over the theft of cable on Delhi Metro’s Blue Line. “Amit Shah ji, what is happening in Delhi? Even the cable of Delhi Metro was stolen. Nothing is safe. Do something,” he posted on X.
Undertaking a “padyatra” campaign in east Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar constituency, Kejriwal claimed that his party was going to retain power in Delhi after the assembly polls next year. He exuded confidence that AAP would get even more seats than it got in the 2020 assembly polls in the capital. Polls for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are due in Feb 2025.
Kejriwal said the Vishwas Nagar constituency had not witnessed any development because even though Delhi had an AAP govt, the local MLA was from BJP. “A lot of work was done by AAP in Delhi, but there is no mohalla clinic here. CCTV cameras have not been installed, and no elderly person from here went on a free pilgrimage,” the former chief minister said.
BJP’s OP Sharma has held the Vishwas Nagar seat since 2013. “He (Sharma) fights a lot but cannot get the work done. So vote for AAP if you want an MLA who can get your work done,” Kejriwal said, addressing a gathering.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged that Kejriwal’s statement was a dream that would never come true. “All areas of Delhi are suffering due to the collapse of infrastructure, roads of the city are broken, regular water supply is not available to people, sewer is overflowing in almost all colonies, and Kejriwal is talking about development work. People know that he is just trying to mislead them,” he said.
The leader of the opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, said AAP govt must allocate Rs 7,200 crore for Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV, which represents Delhi’s share of the project funding. He said the financial shortfall was affecting the construction of three metro lines.
