BENGALURU: Six persons, including two children travelling in an SUV, died in a freak accident after a container truck toppled and fell on the SUV near Nelamangala on Saturday morning.
The accident resulted in a traffic jam for around 3 km on National Highway 4.
The names of the deceased are yet to be ascertained by the police. According to a preliminary investigation, police said the incident happened around 11 am. The SUV and the truck were heading towards Tumakuru from Bengaluru.
Police said the family was going out of the city due to a weekend holiday. The truck and the SUV were moving parallelly when the truck collided with another truck belonging to KMF (Nandini). The container truck and the milk dairy truck toppled.
As the SUV was parallel to the container truck, it was crushed when the truck toppled. The incident happened near T Begur of Nelamangala. According to police, the family of a businessman was travelling in an SUV bearing registration number KA-01-ND-1536. It is the Volvo XC90 B5 Mild Hybrid Ultra.
The family hailed from Vijayapura purchased the SUV in October. The local people and commuters rushed to help the victims.
They pulled out their bodies from the SUV and shifted them to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
The bodies are kept in the mortuary of Nelamangala govt hospital. The police cleared the vehicles from the road using three cranes.
