Kangana Ranaut reacts to the Kapoor family’s meeting with PM Narendra Modi: “Film industry is completely orphaned”

Bollywood actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut shared her views on the Kapoor family’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Kapoor family, including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Neetu Kapoor, met the Prime Minister on December 10 to invite him to the Raj Kapoor Film Festival, celebrating the legendary actor-filmmaker’s 100th birth anniversary.
Kangana, speaking at Aaj Tak event, praised the initiative and expressed her support for PM Modi’s engagement with the film industry, describing it as a step in the right direction. However, she also voiced concerns about the lack of guidance within the film fraternity, which she referred to as “completely orphaned.”
Highlighting the industry’s vulnerability, Kangana stated, “Our film industry needs guidance. This is soft power and is severely underutilized. I’ve been part of this industry for 20 years, and I see how it lacks direction. Whether it’s being swayed by agendas or falling prey to unethical activities, the industry desperately needs leadership.”
Kangana also expressed frustration with the industry’s susceptibility to negative influences. She said, “Individuals in the film industry are often lured into questionable activities. They are made to dance at gangsters’ parties, used in hawala transactions, or manipulated into supporting agendas without understanding the consequences. They feel abandoned because they don’t have anyone to turn to for guidance or support.”
The actress, known for her candid remarks, admitted that she herself has requested an audience with PM Modi. “It’s a positive step that the PM is acknowledging the mainstream film industry. We make numerous films and generate significant revenue, yet we don’t get the same treatment as other industries. I have also requested to meet Modi ji, and I hope one day he will call me,” she added.
Kangana concluded by acknowledging the importance of initiatives like the Raj Kapoor Film Festival. “Such events highlight cinema’s cultural significance and strengthen its connection to leadership, offering hope for the betterment of the industry,” she said.
The Raj Kapoor Film Festival, organized to honor Raj Kapoor’s centenary, was hosted by R.K. Films, Film Heritage Foundation, and NFDC from December 13-15. It featured curated screenings of 10 iconic films across multiple cities, reflecting the Kapoor family’s commitment to celebrating Indian cinema.
