Kalki, the tenth and the final Avatara or manifestation of the preserver Hindu god Vishnu, is said to end the Kali Yuga and start the Satya Yuga: the Golden Period.
In this four-part series, we will explore the reality and the truth of Kalki Avatar.
Sanatan Dharma is one of the oldest Dharmic religions in the world. Various religions that are followed in the Indian Sub-continent are based on the tenets of Sanatan philosophy. Religions such as Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism follow Sanatan Philosophy.
According to Sanatan Hindu, there is only one God known as Brahman. The unknown, unmanifested form of the divine is Brahman. Only Yogis and spiritual masters who have gained enlightenment have briefly touched upon Brahman. In its unmanifested form, Brahman becomes known as various gods and goddesses. The Trimurti, Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswara, are the three principal gods in Sanatan Hinduism.
Brahma is responsible for the creation of the universes, Vishnu is the preserver and Maheshwara is the destroyer. The three are one and describe the different actions of the one god.
Vishnu, the preserver god, has many Avatara who come to the earth plane from time to time to cleanse it of evil and establish Dharma. He comes at the end of every Yuga and begins a new one, but not until violently ending the previous one.
Yuga is time cycle in Hinduism. There are four Yugas in a Mahayuga and we are currently in the fourth Yuga known as Kali or the Iron Age. Kalki Avatar will come at the end of Kali Yuga to the begin Satya Yuga or the Golden Age.
Shri Krishna, one of the avatars of Vishnu who manifested in Dwapara Yuga, said the following on the battlefield of Kurukshetra:
“Yada yada hi dharmasya, glanir bhavati bharata, Abhyutanam adhramashya tadatmanm srijyanmaham. Paritranya sadhunam vinasaya ca drukritam, Dharma samsthapanarthaya, sambhavami Yuge Yuge.”
This roughly translates to the following:
I am born in every yuga to cleanse the earth of sin and establish the kingdom of Dharma.
Kalki Avatara, according to various Sanatan Hindu scriptures, is the tenth Avatara of Vishnu and will be born at the end of the Kali Yuga. He will come in a white horse named Devdetta and wield a sword called Nandaka. It is only a matter of time before he reveals himself.
Various scriptures such as Bhavishya Malika and Bhavishya Purana give complete details about Kalki Avatara. In the next episode, we will explore some of the predictions of the Bhavishya Malika and Bhavishya Purana.
