NEW DELHI: Juventus, currently sitting in sixth place in the Serie A standings, are aiming to break their four-game winless streak when they face 19th-placed Monza on Sunday.
However, coach Thiago Motta‘s squad continues to grapple with injury concerns, with several key players expected to miss the upcoming clash.
Defender Andrea Cambiaso, who sustained an ankle injury earlier this month, is being evaluated for a potential return.
On the other hand, midfielder Douglas Luiz, who has been sidelined since October due to multiple injuries, may not be available for selection, as Motta prefers to have his players fully fit before reintegrating them into the squad.
In addition to Cambiaso and Luiz, Juventus will be without the services of Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, Arkadiusz Milik, Jonas Rouhi, and Timothy Weah, all of whom are nursing injuries.
Despite Monza’s recent struggles, having gone eight league games without a win, Motta acknowledged the challenge they pose, describing them as a “good team” with a “good coach”.
“Today we’ll assess Cambiaso’s condition. On the other hand, I might bring Douglas Luiz, but since I want everyone to be 100% I prefer to postpone his return to the squad,” the coach said. “I hope to always see something good, both in the path of growth and in everything we do. Tomorrow against Monza we face a good team, with a good coach, and as always we must try to play a great game.”
He emphasizes the importance of his side delivering a strong performance and playing an effective attacking game, adding, “If we encounter a compact Monza team, we must be able to attack effectively.”
The upcoming match against Monza presents an opportunity for Juventus to regain their winning form and climb up the Serie A table.
