Society, at large, tells us to succeed and stay as far away from failure; however, the pillars of success lie on the foundation stone of failure. We will explore how failure is a prerequisite for success and why we should embrace failure in this two-part episode.
From budding entrepreneurs to sportsmen to artists, failure shows strengthens our path to success. The joy of victory lies in the bitter experiences of failures.
Anupam Kher, a gifted actor who has represented Indian cinema at an international level, took to his Twitter handle recently to share his thoughts on success. He tweeted:
“Success and failure are two sides of the same coin… So flip the side and enjoy the game!!”
Success is not a fluke. Have you ever seen a successful person? Have you ever wondered why the student securing the first position in the class is most likely to top in every examination? Have you ever thought about why your favorite cricketer has the best stats? Well, it is not magic! For an individual to be successful, a lot of things have to fall into place. From extreme hard work to discipline to time management, a successful
person does not leave any stone unturned. However, the irony of it all is we don’t see or wonder how many times the individual has failed: it’s the success we all see.
An article published on Scientific American mentions the following:
“The recipe for succeeding in any given field is hardly a mystery: good ideas, hard work, discipline, imagination, perseverance and maybe a little luck. Oh, and let’s not forget failure, which Dashun Wang and his colleagues at Northwestern University call “the essential prerequisite for success” in a new paper that, among other things, is based on an analysis of 776,721 grant applications submitted to the National Institutes of Health from 1985 to 2015.”
Failure truly is a stepping stone toward success. Every time an individual fails, he can use it as a learning curve. And after repeated failures and learning, he can finally learn to be successful. Just like everything in life needs to be learned, success requires practice and learning.
An article published on Work It Daily mentions the following:
“By failing and then using what you’ve learned from the experience, you have the potential to become more resilient and more persistent. The more persistent you become, the less likely it is that you’ll be emotionally affected by not getting the outcome you hoped for. And that gives you a better perspective for analyzing what needs to be done to move you toward success.
Every ‘failed attempt’ simply becomes a new learning experience to fine-tune your efforts.”
