Internship Opportunity at Women in Economics Index 2026

About the Internship

Women in Economics Initiative is currently inviting applications for Volunteer Researchers to support the development of the WiE Index 2026. This remote opportunity is ideal for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in data analysis, research, and policy-relevant reporting within the field of Economics.

About the Women in Economics Initiative

The Women in Economics Initiative is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization based in Berlin, Germany. Its mission is to advance gender equality in the economics profession by promoting equal opportunities and balanced representation across academia, the private sector, and public institutions.

One of its flagship outputs is the WiE Index, an annual report that tracks the representation of women economists in senior roles globally. The index serves as a key evidence-based resource for policymakers, researchers, and institutions working toward gender parity.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Researcher, selected candidates will join a collaborative team of around ten contributors working on the WiE Index 2026, scheduled for publication in the second half of the year.

This role offers a unique opportunity to be involved in the full research cycle—from data collection to final publication—while contributing to a globally relevant conversation on gender inequality in economics.

  • Analyzing datasets and creating visualizations using tools such as STATA and Excel
  • Supporting the drafting and proofreading of the final WiE Index 2026 report
  • Assisting in refining research methodologies and developing automated data tools

This hands-on involvement ensures that volunteers gain practical experience in both quantitative and qualitative research.
