First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression
The first day involved basic onboarding formalities such as verification of documents and an introductory briefing. The infrastructure of the office was well organised, with access to legal resources, libraries, and research facilities.
My first impression of the Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission was very positive, as the work environment appeared disciplined, professional, and learning-oriented.
Main Tasks
During my internship at the Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission, my primary task was to conduct detailed legal research on the Waqf Bill and cases related to Waqf laws. I was required to study statutory provisions, constitutional aspects, and judicial precedents concerning Waqf property and its administration.
A significant part of my work involved researching case laws from the Supreme Court and various High Courts using online legal databases, as well as physical resources available in the office library. I also assisted in analysing legal issues, summarising judgments, and preparing research notes and reports for submission.
Additionally, I worked under the guidance of senior members of the Commission, which helped me understand the practical application of law-making processes, policy research, and the role of law commissions in legal reform. This internship enhanced my legal research, analytical thinking, and legal writing skills.
Work Environment
The work environment at the Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission was highly professional, structured, and learning-oriented. The atmosphere encouraged research, discipline, and independent thinking while ensuring proper guidance from senior members of the Commission.
Tasks were clearly assigned, and reasonable timelines were provided for the completion of research work.
Senior officers and mentors were approachable and supportive, which made it easier to seek clarification and improve the quality of work. Regular feedback helped in understanding mistakes and developing better legal reasoning and analytical skills.
The presence of fellow interns also created a collaborative environment where ideas, resources, and knowledge were shared.
Overall, the work culture was intellectually stimulating and demanding, which pushed me to improve my research capabilities, time management, and professional conduct.
The experience provided a realistic understanding of how legal research and policy-oriented work are carried out in a government legal institution.
Good Things about the Internship
One of the most positive aspects of the internship at the Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission was the exposure to practical legal research and policy-related work. The internship provided an opportunity to work on real legal issues, particularly in understanding statutory interpretation and constitutional aspects of law through research on the Waqf Bill.
Another important benefit was the professional guidance received from senior members of the Commission, which helped in improving legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
The availability of legal resources, including books, case law databases, and office infrastructure, made the research process efficient and enriching.
The internship also helped in building a professional network with legal professionals, fellow interns, and individuals associated with the judiciary.
This experience enhanced my understanding of how legal institutions function and clarified my interest in litigation and research-oriented legal careers. Overall, the internship was highly educational and intellectually rewarding.
Bad Things about the Internship
While the internship at the Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission was highly educational, it was also demanding. The workload was intensive, and strict deadlines required a high level of consistency and focus.
Managing complex legal research within limited time frames was challenging, especially while adapting to the professional standards expected in a government legal institution.
The learning curve was steep, and understanding specialised areas of law, such as Waqf legislation and related case laws, required significant effort in a short period.
At times, the pressure to deliver accurate and well-researched work led to stress and required strong time management skills.
However, these challenges played an important role in developing resilience, discipline, and professional competence, making the overall experience valuable despite the difficulties.
