I was browsing through internship opportunities and came across this one on your website. Later, I went through the internship programme and got to know about the firm. Then, I’ve applied.

First-day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

We were required to wear black and white formals to the firm every day except on Saturdays. The office is located in an apartment building, occupying two floors, and is quite spacious. The setup, ambience, and overall arrangements are very well organized and give a professional impression.

Main Tasks

During my internship at Ganu and Co., I was mostly engaged in legal research, case analysis, and court observation. My primary tasks were conducting in-depth research on arbitration law, specifically the scope of Sections 34 and 37 of the Act, along with related provisions of the Indian Contract Act.

I studied and analyzed issues relating to writ jurisdiction, including the maintainability of writs for recovery of money from the state, writ appeals, and writs of Habeas Corpus.

In addition, I prepared analytical reviews on legal films such as Twelve Angry Men to understand courtroom dynamics. As part of practical exposure, I attended proceedings at the City Civil Court.

Work Environment

The work environment in the firm was welcoming and supportive. The junior lawyers were approachable, friendly, and always willing to clarify doubts, which made it easier to understand the work assigned. The interns were also cooperative and easy to interact with, creating a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere overall.

Good Things about the Internship

During the internship, one of the most valuable aspects was the daily interaction with the senior lawyer. He would hold meetings with the interns, explaining the cases he was handling and, at times, elaborating on the relevant legal provisions.

This not only enhanced our understanding of the practical applications of law but also encouraged us to think critically. On Saturdays, we were shown law-related movies and asked to write our perspectives and commentaries, which helped us connect legal principles with real-life situations in an engaging way.

Despite his busy schedule, the senior lawyer personally reviewed and provided feedback on every report we submitted, which was highly motivating. The office timings, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., were feasible and allowed for a balanced routine.

Additionally, the firm fostered a professional yet approachable work culture, where interns could freely interact, learn, and gain valuable exposure to both litigation and office practices.

Bad Things about the Internship

One of the major drawbacks of the internship was the lack of regular court exposure. During my one-month tenure, I was taken to court only once, and most of the time the work was confined to preparing case reports and analyses of matters handled by the senior lawyer.

While this was useful for improving research and drafting skills, it limited the opportunity to gain practical courtroom experience. Furthermore, the structure of the internship seemed more suitable for second- or third-year students, as it primarily focused on understanding cases and basic legal concepts rather than advanced learning.

For fourth- or fifth-year students, who seek greater practical engagement and court-related exposure, the program may not be as beneficial. A more balanced approach, including frequent court visits, live proceedings, and varied practical assignments, would significantly enhance the overall learning experience.

Details about the Accommodation, Commuting to the Office

There are several paying guest (PG) accommodations available for girls in the vicinity of the office, making it convenient for outstation interns. I stayed at Mahi Executive PG for Girls, which was within walking distance from the office, thereby eliminating commuting difficulties.

The locality is safe and well-connected, with easy access to public transport and cabs for longer distances. In addition, there are numerous cafés, eateries, and food stalls nearby, which provide a variety of options for meals and short breaks.

The proximity of these facilities made the stay comfortable and added to the overall convenience of the internship experience.

Anything else you want to share?

During the internship, I made it a point to balance work with relaxation. During breaks, I often visited nearby cafés with fellow interns, which helped in building good friendships and easing the workload. The experience also taught me the importance of discipline, time management, and consistency in legal practice.

Most importantly, I learned how crucial it is to pay attention to detail while drafting and analyzing cases. Overall, beyond the academic exposure, the internship gave me valuable life lessons in teamwork, adaptability, and professional conduct.
