Bengaluru: The Rail Infrastructure Development Company-Karnataka Limited (K-Ride) on Wednesday said it has successfully launched India’s first 31-metre U-Girder, marking a milestone in the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP).
“This achievement signifies a major leap forward in establishing a state-of-the-art suburban rail network aimed at revolutionising Bengaluru’s urban transportation,” K-Ride said.
The U-Girder is for BSRP second corridor’s Mallige line, connecting Chikbanavara to Yeshwantpur. Weighing 178 metric tonnes and comprising 70 cubic meters of concrete and 12.5 tonnes of steel, the girder was carefully positioned using two high-capacity cranes with 550-tonne and 700-tonne capacities,” it said.
Serving as a critical structural component of the elevated track, it provides the foundational base for track laying and essential infrastructure systems, including traction and signalling. The successful launch demonstrates technical expertise, precise design implementation, and meticulous planning. | TNN
