India Set to Manufacture Airbus Components and Increase Job Opportunities by 2025

Airbus, the leading European aerospace company, has recently inked agreements with several Indian firms to manufacture various components for commercial aircraft. This collaboration is expected to bolster India’s aerospace industry and encourage the “Make in India” initiative to promote domestic manufacturing and accelerate economic growth.

The companies that are part of this collaboration include Aequs, a precision engineering firm; Dynamatic Technologies, a manufacturer of hydraulic systems and components; Gardner Aerospace, a supplier of detailed parts and assemblies; and Mahindra Aerospace, a provider of aircraft design and manufacturing services. The contract plays a vital role in bolstering the expansion of commercial aircraft programs on a global scale. Moreover, it will enhance the aviation ecosystem of India by improving its capability and capacity.

Airbus has joined hands with Indian suppliers to procure airframe and wing parts for its commercial aircraft programs. This collaboration aims to extend Airbus’ commercial aircraft production worldwide while improving India’s skill set and capacities in various aerospace technologies, including sheet metal, machining, and extrusion profiles.

“For Airbus, India is not just a market but a strategic resource hub for both human capital and aerospace components and services. We are proud to extend our partnership with Aequs, Dynamatic, Gardner and Mahindra Aerospace who are all trusted Airbus partners in India delivering with sound technical expertise and operational excellence,” said Airbus India and South Asia president Remi Maillard.

Airbus has recently signed new contracts with Indian companies after the company had previously allocated the manufacturing of cargo and bulk cargo doors for their A320neo family to Tata Advanced Systems earlier in the year. According to the company, they procure components and services worth $750 million annually from India, and these new contracts will significantly increase those volumes. The release further states that every Airbus commercial aircraft has components and technologies made in India.

“We are proud that we are putting in place all the critical building blocks for an integrated industrial ecosystem that will propel India into the front ranks of aerospace manufacturing nations,” Maillard added.

However, Airbus has been making substantial investments in India’s aviation industry over the past few years, leading to a significant rise in employment opportunities. The company anticipates that this number will further increase to approximately 15,000 by 2025. Consequently, this growth will have a favorable impact on the country’s economy, as it will generate more job opportunities, augment tax revenue, and foster the growth of the aviation sector.
