Ahmedabad: A 46-year-old man from Nadiad town in Kheda district on Friday night allegedly slashed his wife’s nose with a knife as she reportedly refused to give him water. Bhamri Bheel, 44, a resident of Santram Sewa Mandir Sindhi chawl near Amdavadi Darwaza in Nadiad, said in the FIR that she works with a temple trust as housekeeping worker and has six children. Her husband, Raju Bheel, is a daily wager. Bhamri said she returned from work late on Friday night and slept. At midnight, Raju woke her up and told her to bring a glass of water for him. She refused and said that he should have brought the water himself to quench his thirst.
Listening to this, Raju became angry at her and began abusing her. She told him not to abuse her as their daughters were sleeping next to them. This allegedly irked him more, and he started beating her.
As she resisted, he brought a knife, and slashed her nose, leaving her bleeding profusely and screaming in pain.
At that time, her daughters woke up and rescued their mother from their father.
After this, Raju fled, and Bhamri was rushed to Nadiad Civil Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment for severe cut wounds on her nose. A medico-legal case was filed at the hospital, after which Nadiad town police began an investigation into the case.
Police registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing hurt, causing grievous hurt, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and criminal intimidation against Raju. After an offence was registered against him, Raju also tried to commit suicide by ingesting poison. He was admitted to a hospital.
