Ahmedabad: A 40-year-old man fell victim to a honeytrap gang on Dec 5, where a woman led him to an isolated location before her accomplices arrived, threatened him with rape allegations, and stole his belongings. The five-member gang, including two women, were apprehended by the Nalsarovar police of Ahmedabad district, police said on Friday.
The Nalsarovar police busted the gang on Thursday. According to the police, the gang systematically targeted individuals through deceptive means, subsequently robbing them.
Ahmedabad rural police officials confirmed the arrest of Janki Upra (28), Nasir Jasraya (22), Kausar Pinjara (21), and Raj Kotai (27), all from Dhrol in Jamnagar; and Sahil Vaghela (25) from Rajkot. They face charges of unlawful confinement, fraud, and intimidation.
Police said that Janki and Pinjara used social media platforms and mobile applications to establish contact with potential targets. The group’s strategy involved building relationships before drawing victims to a secluded place.
In one instance, they invited the victim to a specific spot along the Nalsarovar road. The gang executed their scheme, taking cash, jewellery valued at ₹4.45 lakh, and electronic devices. They also compelled the victim to reveal banking information and withdrew Rs 62,000 from ATMs using his debit card.
Through technical monitoring and collaborative efforts, police located the suspects from Dhrol and Rajkot. Following coordinated operations, the police arrested the suspects and recovered stolen items worth Rs 4 lakh, including cash, jewellery, and electronic devices.
