Here’s why Rohit Sharma got retired hurt at 19 during MI vs RCB match

Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma chose to get retired out against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, seemingly due to a hamstring injury. In the sixth over of the run chase, Rohit signalled to the dressing room that he would be leaving the field as he struggled with the aforementioned issue.

Rohit had walked out to open the innings alongside South African wicket-keeper Ryan Rickelton.

The home side were chasing a mammoth target of 241, and required a blazing start from their batters to maximise the field restrictions in the first six overs.

Rohit made a strong start, garnering two fours and a maximum to race his way to 19 off 13 deliveries.

Whilst Rasikh Salam Dar was bowling the sixth over, Rohit took some time, got some medical attention, and batted for a couple of deliveries, before making his decision known to the locker room. Suryakumar Yadav walked in to bat instead of Rohit.

MI have lost two games on the trot, and have a massive taks up their sleeve to garner a couple of key points from this high-octane fixture.

However, this dismissal has not ruled Rohit out of the contest completely. He can always return to the mix at any further point in the innings. Rohit had done something similar during an ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka in December 2022, when he temporarily withdrew from batting owing to a thumb issue.

During a tense run chase, Rohit came in to bat at No. 9 and produced a heroic half-century, but could not take the Men in Blue past the finishing line.
