When you leave Bengaluru to Pune either by rail or road, you will not/cannot miss the Gundlamma kere right before entering Tumakuru city. Locked between the train and trucks with a rocky hill as its backdrop this lake is home to Darter, Heron, Kingfisher and an endless list of winged wonders. Dumped, trashed, neglected was its state until 2025. Part of a collaborative conservation effort between Tumakuru Municipal Authorities – Intel and E.F.I, the Gundlamma kere was taken up for cleaning and restoration. Invasive vegetation removed, now controlled with clean tech systems. Lake deepened to increase storage capacity, that it is brimming even with the onset of a scorching summer. Embankment strengthened-widened and fenced to enhance protection to the water and the habitat. Check the restoration efforts below:

Gundlamma to Badihalli to Shettihalli to Hettanahalli, join E.F.I on a hydrotrail at Tumakuru. String of lakes restored to hold freshwater to enhance groundwater recharge. An effort that has brought life back in shapes-sizes-colors and across seasons. This is Whatever to Water Forever in Tumakuru. Volunteer for Karnataka and her Environment with E.F.I.
