PANAJI: The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Shrinivas Dempo welcomed the Goa Industrial Development Corporation’s (GIDC) decision to reserve 30% of small individual plots exclusively for women applicants. The GCCI has always advocated for policies and initiatives that promote women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, he said.
“We believe that this initiative will have a positive impact on the state’s economy and will encourage more women to take up entrepreneurship,” Dempo said.
He said that in the Union Budget 2025, Nari Shakti (Women Empowerment) was one of the core areas of focus.
“By providing exclusive access to plots, the GIDC is enabling women entrepreneurs to overcome one of the major hurdles they face — access to land and infrastructure,” Dempo said.
GCCI – women’s wing committee chairperson Asha Arondekar said this is a forward-thinking initiative which will undoubtedly empower women entrepreneurs and promote gender equality in the state’s industrial sector. “We look forward to working closely with Goa govt and the GIDC to ensure the success of this initiative and to promote women’s entrepreneurship in the state,” she added.
The GCCI said only 7% of the 111 medium category enterprises are owned and managed by women entrepreneurs. Twenty industrial plots now have been earmarked for women at Pissurlem, Kundaim, Panchawadi, Madkaim, Verna, Honda and Tuem with plot sizes between 600 and 3,000sqm with a base rate between Rs 1,070 per sqm to 2,810 per sqm.
The tender is already open and will close by March 31. The GCCI has asked women entrepreneurs in Goa come forward and apply for these plots.
