The 18th G20 summit will take place under the Indian presidency in September 2023. The theme of the summit is “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” which will focus on humans, plants, animals, and microorganisms and their importance on planet Earth.

In the last episode, we explored PM Modi’s vision for a united world order where every nation would be treated as equal partners. In this episode, we will look at the countries attending and skipping the event.

The G20 Summit is scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10 in New Delhi. This will be the first time the summit will be held under the Indian presidency.

The preparations in New Delhi are in full swing. Keeping the summit in mind, financial institutions and central government offices will remain closed from September 8 to 10.

Here are some countries that will attend the meeting:

The US: Joe Biden, the President of America, will be in India from September 7 to 10. The US President will discuss various issues among which are the Ukraine conflict and climate change impact.

An article published on TBS News mentions the following:

“…Biden along with other G20 partners will discuss joint efforts to tackle global issues including clean energy transition and combating climate change, mitigating economic and social impacts of Ukraine war and increasing the capacity of multilateral development banks including the World Bank to better fight poverty, the White House said last week.”

In addition to the US, the following countries will attend the summit:

  • The UK
  • Republic of Korea
  • France
  • China
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Bangladesh.

Among countries that are yet to confirm their attendance are Argentina, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Africa, Mexico, Turkey, Japan, Italy, Indonesia and Germany.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, expressed his inability to be present at the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi. The Russian president telephoned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and informed him that the Foreign Minister would make a trip to New Delhi for the summit.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin telephoned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain his decision not to attend next month’s G20 Summit in-person. Putin said Russia will be represented at the meeting by foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, according to a statement from the External Affairs Ministry.”
