New Delhi: A 22-year-old Indian travelling from Doha to Delhi on Wednesday tried to outsmart the Customs by hiding gold chains worth Rs 17.5 lakh in a toffee wrapper. However, officers spotted suspicious images during baggage X-ray and found two gold chains weighing 240 grams.
A Customs official said the man from Rajasthan landed at IGI Airport on Wednesday from Qatar’s Doha. The passenger was carrying a packet of chocolates and suspicious images were observed during the X-ray examination of the luggage. During the further physical examination of the chocolates, it was found that a single wrapper with transparent tape contained two gold chains, said an official. The flyer has been booked.
“Sharp-eyed officers spotted suspicious images during baggage X-rays, leading to the sweet discovery,” Customs posted on its official handle on X.
An official said that further investigation was underway and the gold chains had been seized under Customs Act.
