The announcement was made late, just hours after the Supreme Court instructed all states in the Delhi-NCR region to halt physical classes for students up to Class 12 due to worsening air quality.
Simultaneously, the University of Delhi declared that its classes would shift online until Saturday, November 23.
Earlier, the DoE had said in a circular that physical classes for all students upto class nine and class eleven is to be discontinued from November 18 until further orders.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has invoked stricter pollution control measures for the Delhi-NCR under Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan, or GRAP, effective from 8 am on November 18.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) worsened on Sunday, reaching 441 at 4 pm and rising to 457 by 7 pm due to unfavourable weather conditions.
