New Delhi: In anticipation of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections and a recent uptick in crime, the north west district police launched “Operation Crackdown.” The initiative which deployed over 1,500 officers, resulted in a number of arrests and seizures, targeting a wide range of criminal activities.
DCP (northwest) Abhishek Dhania said a total of 415 wanted criminals were apprehended, including 81 declared proclaimed offenders. “Special operations targeted individuals involved in theft, robbery, and other serious crimes. Ten of the district’s 26 parole jumpers were also located and arrested. Additionally, 21 individuals involved in organised crime, including bootlegging, gambling, narcotics, and street crimes, were taken into custody,” he said.
A dedicated anti-drug campaign led to 61 arrests in 61 separate cases. Beat staff also verified 140 individuals on bail for prior NDPS Act offences. Fifty-three wanted juveniles were detained, with 18 implicated in serious crimes. “Social media accounts of 67 juveniles, used to share content with criminal undertones, were deactivated. Following verification of 149 individuals on bail or acquitted in Arms Act cases, police seized 22 illegal weapons and live cartridges, arresting 15 individuals. Preventive action was taken against 81 others,” he said.
Forty-four cybercrime cases also were investigated, resulting in 31 arrests.
