Delhi: Man murdered over not flushing in toilet

NEW DELHI: A man was allegedly murdered and his brother and friend were injured after being stabbed in Govindpuri in southeast Delhi on Saturday. The accused and the victims were tenants in the same building, sharing a common toilet, and a dispute over not flushing it led to the violent altercation, said police.
Police have detained a man, his wife and three sons, including a minor, in the case. The 19-year-old deceased lived with his family and was an e-rickshaw driver. His 22-year-old brother and 20-year-old friend who came to meet him were taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The main accused works at a building material shop in Govindpuri.
Police received a PCR call at 12.07am about the quarrel and got to know around 3am that one of the injured had died, while his brother was unfit to give a statement and the friend was discharged. A murder case was registered.
Both parties were tenants on the first floor of the building. The argument began when a minor used the toilet and forgot to flush it. The victim, who later died, was stabbed on the chest, face and scalp with a kitchen knife.
Another tenant of the building said he saw two men crying, with blood oozing out of their wounds, and one of them was pleading for help. The tenant went downstairs and called the landlord. “Blood was everywhere on their bodies,” he said. “The victims lived here for a long time while the accused recently shifted here.”
A relative of the deceased, who stays in the next lane, said, “One of the injured brothers managed to reach a shop in our lane and asked the shopkeeper to call me.” This year, the family, from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, had also lost its eldest son.
Chief minister Atishi met the family of the victim and told media later that the spot was merely 100-200 metres from where a constable on duty was shot a fortnight ago. On Saturday, a businessman was also murdered during his morning stroll in Shahdara, she said, demanding an answer from BJP-led central govt.
