The Delhi High Court has directed the Election Commission of India to take a prompt decision on an application seeking registration of a political party named “Telangana Praja Jagruti,” associated with K. Kavitha.

The matter came before the Court through a plea highlighting delays in processing the application for registration. It was argued that such delays hinder the functioning of political organizations and affect their ability to participate effectively in democratic processes.

Taking note of the concern, the High Court observed that applications of this nature should be dealt with within a reasonable timeframe. It emphasised that prolonged inaction by the Election Commission could impact the rights of those seeking to form and operate a political party.

While refraining from expressing any opinion on the merits of the application, the Court instructed the Commission to examine the plea in accordance with the law and pass an appropriate decision without unnecessary delay.

The order underscores the importance of timely administrative action by constitutional bodies, particularly in matters that influence political participation and democratic representation.
