Though the State was suffering from a fund crunch due to the irresponsible functioning of the previous government, thanks to coordinated efforts and efficient management of the present government, the financial situation is stable, said Public Accounts Committee chairperson K. Selvaperunthagai here on Friday.
Moreover, the previous government had wiped out the State government’s treasury and due to this many of the projects even in his constituency could not be completed, said the Sriperumpudur MLA and Tamil Nadu Congress Commitee’s State president.
“Even for paying interest, the previous government took loans. But the effective functioning of the economic advisory council in the current government has led to continuation of many social welfare schemes. In fact, many new schemes have also been started for the welfare of people,” he said.
While 85% of the promises made by the current government were fulfilled, the remaining promises were under consideration and they would soon be implemented, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said.
To tackle the fund crunch, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had been advised to focus on mines and minerals to generate revenue.
Further, as complaints were raised about poor quality of houses built in Karaikudi by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, the committee has sought reports from the officials, he said.
In addition, the committee has recommended for upgrading the Primary Health Care (PHC) centre into a hospital at Thirukostiyur.
The committee members, including MLAs J. Mohamed Shahnawaz, Agri Krishnamurthy, C.V.M.P. Ezhilarasan, P. Abdul Samad, and Sivaganga Collector Asha Ajith were present.
