Denmark-based Maersk, one of the world’s largest shipping companies, has shown interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh. Maersk, a global leader in maritime transport, with operations in over 130 countries, can make Andhra Pradesh a leader in sea transport if it establishes its presence in the State.
During the second day of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Tuesday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held talks with Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc.
The Chief Minister also met with Chuck Robbins, Chairman and CEO of Cisco, a multinational technology company, known for its innovations in networking, data centres, and the Internet of Things. Mr. Naidu expressed his wish for Cisco to become a partner in the development of Andhra Pradesh. He invited Cisco to consider establishing a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Visakhapatnam or Tirupati and assured that the State has a wealth of talent.
Mr. Naidu discussed the ₹1.4 lakh crore integrated steel project in Anakapalle with ArcelorMittal/Nippon Steel Executive Chairman Lakshmi N. Mittal and CEO Aditya Mittal. This massive greenfield project is one of the largest investments recently made in the State, with a capacity of 17.8 million tonnes. The Chief Minister also held investment discussions with Welspun Chairman B.K. Goenka.
Mr. Naidu met LG Chem Limited CEO Shin Hak Cheol and urged them to set up their energy unit in the State. Suggesting that LG Chem explore opportunities to establish petrochemical units in Moolapeta-Visakhapatnam and a semiconductor unit in Tirupati, the Chief Minister assured them of all the necessary facilities and full support for setting up the plant quickly. Additionally, he asked LG Chem’s CEO to act as an ambassador for investments between Andhra Pradesh and South Korea. LG Chem, the largest chemical company in South Korea, is planning to establish a $1.5 billion lithium-ion battery plant.
The Chief Minister also held talks with Jacob Aarup-Andersen, CEO of Carlsberg Group, a producer of fruit juices, soft drinks, beers, and packaged drinking water.
Inviting Carlsberg to establish an integrated brewery and bottling unit in the State, he suggested they consider the industrial parks in Visakhapatnam, Krishnapatnam, and Sri City for their project. He also suggested them to partner with local farmers in Andhra Pradesh to procure high-quality agricultural products such as barley, maize, and rice.
