CBSE Class 12 Physics Board Exam 2025: Expert-recommended expected questions from Atoms, Nuclei, and Semiconductor Electronics

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the date sheet for the Class 10 and 12 Board Exams 2025. For Class 12 students, exams will commence on February 15, 2025, and conclude on April 4, 2025. According to the schedule, the Class 12 Physics exam is slated for February 21, 2025. With less than three months left, students are intensively preparing to excel in this critical subject.
To aid in their preparation, Shailendra Pandey, a faculty member at Physics Wallah, has curated a list of expected questions for the Class 12 Physics Board Exam 2025. While these expert insights are valuable, students are also encouraged to focus on textbooks, sample papers, model question papers, and previous years’ papers available on CBSE’s official website.
This article highlights some of the expected questions from key chapters like Atoms, Nuclei, and Semiconductor Electronics.

Chapter 12: Atoms
Question 1: Explain Rutherford’s model of the atom and its limitations.
Question 2: Derive the expression for the radius of the nth orbit of the hydrogen atom using Bohr’s model.
Question 3: State and derive the expression for the energy of an electron in the nth orbit of a hydrogen atom.
Question 4: Explain the spectral series of the hydrogen atom (Lyman, Balmer, etc.).
Question 5: Numerical: Calculate the wavelength of the emitted photon during the transition of an electron between two energy levels in a hydrogen atom.
Chapter 13: Nuclei
Question 1: Define mass defect and binding energy. Derive the relation between them.
Question 2: Explain the nuclear force and its characteristics.
Question 3: Explain nuclear fission and fusion, with their applications in energy production.
Chapter 14: Semiconductor Electronics – Materials, Devices, and Simple Circuits
Question 1: Explain the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors.
Question 2: Discuss the working of a p-n junction diode in forward and reverse bias.
Question 3: Draw and explain the circuit diagram of a half-wave rectifier.
Question 4: Derive the expression for the efficiency of a full-wave rectifier.

CBSE Board Exam 2025: Preparation tips for Class 12 Physics board exam

Understand the Syllabus: Familiarize yourself with the latest CBSE syllabus, focusing on chapters with higher weightage like Optics, Electrostatics, and Current Electricity. Be aware of topics that have been removed or modified to streamline your preparation.
Organize Study Materials: Use NCERT textbooks and the NCERT Wallah YouTube Channel (Vijeta Series) as your primary resources. Additionally, refer to supplementary guides like SL Arora for extra numerical and keep CBSE sample papers and past years’ question papers handy for practice.
Create a Study Plan: Divide your study time between theory and numerical (e.g., 40% theory, 60% numerical). Make sure to allocate time for daily revisions and mock tests to stay on track and evaluate your progress regularly.
Master the Basics: Ensure a clear understanding of fundamental concepts, formulas, and definitions. Revise key formulas and derivations daily and maintain a formula sheet for quick reference during revision sessions.
Practice Numerical: Solve all solved and unsolved numerical from NCERT, focusing on high-weightage topics like Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Ray and Wave Optics, Magnetic Effects of Current, and Alternating Current. Gradually move to tougher problems from reference books.
Focus on Important Derivations: Memorize and practice step-by-step derivations, as they are often asked in exams. Focus on derivations such as the lens maker’s formula, electric field due to a dipole, Biot-Savart law, and EMF in a rotating coil (AC generator).
Solve Sample Papers: Solve at least three sample papers under exam conditions during the final month of preparation. Analyze your performance to identify weak areas, time management issues, and areas needing further revision.
Revise Regularly: Regularly revise theoretical concepts, formulas, and key questions to reinforce your knowledge. Practice numerical and derivations until you’re confident and comfortable with solving them in the exam.
