Bundle dragged by stray dogs turns out to be dead baby girl

Ahmedabad: A newborn girl was found dead on the campus of a nursing college in Kadi town of Mehsana on Saturday. Police say she either died after being bitten and mauled by stray dogs or may have been abandoned dead. The cause is being investigated.
Urmika Khokhar, 44, a warden with a private nursing college in Kadi, stated in her FIR with Kadi police on Saturday that three students living in the hostel informed her that a pack of stray dogs was dragging something that looked like a small bundle, wrapped in cloth.
Khokhar went to the garden where the pack had gathered and found it was the body of a newborn baby girl with injuries from dog bites.
She told police that she informed hostel director Phulji Patel, who informed the police control room about the incident. A team of Kadi police reached the spot and began an investigation into the case.
According to the FIR, the baby was just about a day old. Kadi police registered a case under Section 94 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body.
Cops said that they will investigate if the girl was abandoned alive by her parents because of her gender and was killed by stray dogs, or if somebody abandoned a dead child in the garden of the nursing college.
This is not a unique or first case where a girl was abandoned or killed in the state. On Oct 28, a 35-year-old woman abandoned her baby girl at the Dhandhuka railway station as she was the fourth girl of that woman.
She left her because her husband desired a male child only.
