In August 1947 India gained Independence after two hundred years of British rule. What followed was one of the largest and bloodiest forced migrations in the history. Approximately one million people lost their lives. And how many families or loved ones got separated? Well, that number is unaccounted for. -Brother and Sister Meet news

Mohinder Kaur Got Separated From Her 4 -Year-Old Brother Abdul Sheikh Aziz During the Partition. Now 75 years Later They Reunite at Kartarpur Sahib on May 19, 2023.

Everything has changed from the time Mohinder and Abdul split– name, appearance, age, language, and even religion; but one thing that remains the same is their undying love and attachment for each other. Abdul Sheikh Aziz, who was previously known as Arjan Singh, converted to Islam post-partition and lives in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan. Mohinder Kaur lives in Patiala, India. Although their families were in touch for the last three years they finally met on May 19, 2023. Mohinder and Abdul, along with their respective families spent almost 4 hours at Kartarpur Sahib. -Brother and Sister Meet news

Mohinder’s childhood experience: According to Mohinder Kaur, they were 5 siblings and lived in Muzaffarabad’s Kulti village. Two of them were killed by the rioters during the partition. Even her mother and most of her family members died. Few, who were alive, fled to India. Mohinder’s grandmother took her to the Kangra camp, where she also passed away later. Mohinder was raised by her uncle.

Abdul’s experience: Abdul converted to Islam from Sikh and has no regrets about that. But what haunts him most is that he was left all alone to fend for himself at the age of 4.-Brother and Sister Meet news

How they met: Mohinder’s family had been trying to trace their long-lost family for a long time. Mohinder’s son, Harjeet Singh adds, “We got to know about an NGO run by Mr.Harpal Singh Sudan in Ganganagar, India. He helped reunite families separated during the partition.” Mohinder’s family was asked to make a video citing her complete family history and information. This video was forwarded to a Pakistani NGO run by a man named Mr. Imran Khan, whose sincere endeavor could help reunite this brother-sister.

3 generations of the family got to meet each other for the first time and had lots to catch up on. They bonded so well over a short period which makes them keep coming back to see each other. They appeal to both of their respective governments to make less stringent immigration laws between the two countries.

Kartarpur Sahib Corridor remained witness to this emotional reunion. Maybe that is the reason why Shri Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara has immense significance. Since 2019 Kartarpur Sahib Corridor has been playing the predominant role in uniting long-lost families.
