Ahmedabad: A high-value theft unfolded in the city as a prized bracelet, worth Rs 6.5 lakh, mysteriously disappeared from the room of a 5-star hotel in Usmanpura.
The missing item belonged to Hisrotsugu Itaro, who has been staying in the hotel room since Aug 2023. Originally hailing from Fujimachi in Nishitokyo city of Japan, Itaro told Vadaj police that he had placed the bracelet on his desk on Feb 10. The bracelet, an exquisite bangle with one half golden and the other silver, was purchased for 9,816.5 Singapore dollars, the complaint stated.
“When I needed the bracelet on Feb 12, it was no longer where I had kept it. After searching my room thoroughly, I concluded that it has been stolen,” the complainant stated.
He told police, “On Feb 16, I informed the hotel manager and staff. However, even after extensive questioning, the bracelet could not be found. Ten days later, on Feb 26, the hotel informed me that despite their internal investigation, the piece remained missing. They told me I could report it to the police.”
Unable to report the incident immediately due to work commitments, Itaro visited the police station on Monday but decided to look for the piece of jewellery one last time. Unable to find it, he eventually filed his complaint of theft on Thursday.
Sources told TOI that the hotel representatives conducted an internal investigation, following which they also assisted the guest in seeking police intervention and are duly cooperating with the police authorities. The guest has been living at the hotel for almost two years, sources said.
