Bogus doctor team promise knee relief pain, dupe 66-yr-old of 6L

Ahmedabad: What started as a chance meeting with a stranger turned out to be a con that left a 66-year-old from Ahmedabad poorer by Rs 6 lakh. Approached by a man suggesting treatment for his limp, the senior citizen fell prey to fraudsters who posed as a doctor and his assistant offering knee treatments at home.
Sanjay Saxena, a resident of Pavitranagar in Isanpur, approached Isanpur police on Tuesday, alleging cheating, impersonation and breach of trust by the accused, identified as Dr M Patil and Raju Patil.
Saxena told police that on Dec 15, after limping out of a hotel on CG Road due to leg pain, an unidentified man approached him, claiming his father had benefited from Dr Patil’s treatment. The man provided a mobile number, prompting Saxena to contact the doctor, who scheduled a home visit at 9.30am on Dec 17.
Dr Patil and his assistant, Raju Patil, arrived at Saxena’s home, examined his knee, and claimed they needed to extract pus. They said they would charge Rs 6,000 per session. Over 153 supposed pus extractions were conducted, and the fraudsters billed him Rs 9 lakh. Saxena negotiated the amount down to Rs 6 lakh and paid in cash after withdrawing funds from his bank.
The complainant told police that he informed his daughter, Rasika, about the treatment and sent her the visiting card. “When Rasika searched online, she could not find any clinic matching the name and address on the card. It became clear that the two men were fraudster who provided fake treatment to dupe me out of the money,” Saxena stated in his complaint.
