Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is to expand its fleet with 148 additional electric buses under GCC model as Tata Motors secured a new order on December 19.

TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, will supply, operate, and maintain 12-metre low-floor Tata Starbus electric buses for BMTC over a 12-year period. This order, which adds 148 buses, follows a previous order of 921 electric buses, most of which are already operational with an uptime exceeding 95%, according to Tata Motors.

Ramachandran R., Managing Director of BMTC, said, “The performance of the existing Tata electric buses has been exceptional, aligning perfectly with our commitment to sustainable and efficient public transportation.”

Under the agreement, BMTC will provide conductors and pay Tata Motors ₹41 per kilometre, while Tata Motors will handle driver deployment and fleet maintenance.
