‘Baby John’ is an adaptation of ‘Theri,’ not a remake, Varun Dhawan explains

Varun Dhawan, the hero of the upcoming ‘Baby John’ film, has explained that the movie is more of an adaptation than a scene-by-scene remake from the 2016 Tamil flick ‘Theri’. Speaking to India Today, he clarified how much was altered for the Bollywood context while talking about the major differences in the two films.

Varun discussed the adoption process, saying, “There was a definite purpose why Atlee presented this film to us. In order to use it as an adaptation rather than a true remake, we had to change a lot of the topography. The actor noted that the plot and images of the movie have been changed to create a unique flavor. “Many frames and story angles are different, so if someone is expecting a literal remake, they will be disappointed,” Varun stated. “We’re not running away from the fact that it’s an adaptation, but it’s not a straight-up remake.”
This Hindi production is the first outing from director Atlee, known for ‘Jawan’. Directed by Kalees, Baby John features Varun in an action drama where he plays a tough, single father, a fearless police officer. In a thrilling scene, he delivers the line, “Mere jaise bohat aaye hoge, main pehli baar aaya hu” (“Many like me might have come before, but I have come here for the first time”), which sets up his heroic character’s journey.

Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff all play important roles in the Christmas release, which also includes a special cameo from Salman Khan.
